Healthcare, Medical Office Specialist, and Billing and Coding Certification Training and Preparation

Computer Career Center is proud to present campus locations in
Amarillo, TX and Lubbock, TX. Currently, the school offers certification training classes in various areas of medical administration and care, as well as medical office, billing, and coding procedures.

There are three certification training and preparation courses currently offered at the Lubbock and Amarillo, Texas locations of the Computer Career Center:

The National Healthcare Association (NHA) certification training and preparation program.


This course provides students with the preparation necessary to complete the NHA's Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) and gives students partial preparation for the Certified Billing and Coding Specialist (CBCS) exam.

The NHA certification training and preparation program begins with a foundation in medical administrative assistant procedures. Class time is also devoted to:

          proper medical billing and coding protocol
          appointment scheduling and medical office etiquette
          filing for medical claims reimbursements
          medical laws and ethics
          health information management -- and more

This seminar is 40 clock hours in length.

The Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) certification training and preparation program.


This course of study gives students class time dedicated to preparing for the National Association of Health Unit Coordinators, Inc. Certified Health Unit Coordinator (CHUC) certification exam, and partial preparation for the NHA Certified Billing and Coding Specialist (CBCS) exam.

The training program for the HUC certification offers a focus in various areas of medical administration. Other material discussed in class includes:

          medical terminology
          human anatomy, physiology, and body systems
          medical reports and patient charts
          medical orders, including doctor's orders, medication, orders, and dietary orders and restrictions
          aseptic techniques; hospital infection control
          medical administrative procedures
          medical billing and coding protocol
          health unit coordinating

This seminar is 88 clock hours in length.


Now in Amarillo, Texas -- and coming later, Lubbock, Texas -- diploma
granting programs in medical assisting and medical information specialist
courses of study.


Medical Assistant training program

The medical assistant training program to be offered in Amarillo, TX and Lubbock, TX focuses on educating the student in the nuances of working in a medical office, including computer skills and medical billing and coding procedures. They will also acquire the skills that will enable them to assist doctors and patients in the exam room and bed-side.

The program of study begins with general education courses that are essential to success in any workplace: English, mathematics, and computer skills. More advanced, career-specific concepts taught in this program of study include medical terminology at the beginner and advanced levels, as well as medical office procedures. Students will then take class units in medical insurance coding and computer-based medical billing. They will also study medical laws and ethics, certainly important components of any modern healthcare practice.

In addition, students will learn beginning and advanced human anatomy and physiology, as well as introductory and advanced-level pharmacology skills. Clinical and laboratory skills, and a class on the psychology of success round out this program.

Medical Information Specialist training program

This upcoming program at the Lubbock and Amarillo campus locations of Computer Career Center enables students to prepare for careers as medical office administrators and managers. General education courses include beginning and advanced accounting concepts as well as English writing and mathematics courses.

Strong computer skills are a necessary qualification for working in a medical office. Students also take classes in computer applications, spreadsheet management, and word processing basics and techniques. They also take a database class and a class in medical office procedures.

The other theme of the class work in the medical information specialist training program is billing and coding. Students take classes in medical terminology, which provide them with a comprehensive medical vocabulary for the professional workplace. They then take various classes in billing and coding for the medical office and hospital. Classes in medical ethics and the psychology of success round out this training program.
