Medical Information Specialist - Lubbock Medical information specialists are very important members of the health care team who work directly with physicians, nurses, and other health care providers. They are the patient data experts on which patient care practitioners rely. This is the perfect profession for individuals who are interested in working in the medical field, yet do not want to work directly in patient care. Medical Information Specialist job prospects are projected to be very good. Employment of medical records and health information technicians is expected to grow much faster than average for all occupations through 2014 because of rapid growth in the number of medical tests, treatments, and procedures that will be increasingly scrutinized by health insurance companies, regulators, courts, and consumers. Also, technicians will be needed to go into patient information into computer databases to act in accordance with with Federal legislation mandating the use of electronic patient records. |
The Medical Information Specialist program is a comprehensive program designed to
assist the student in gaining the necessary skills and procedures necessary to
administer a medical office. Graduates of this program will be proficient in medical
terminology, medical transcription, insurance coding and billing, and computerized
medical office procedures that will assist them in becoming effective
employees in the medical office. The student will also learn the latest software
applications in word and data processing necessary to succeed in today’s job
market. Additionally, the graduate will develop job-seeking and interpersonal
skills. Graduates in the Medical Information Specialist program will be able to
seek entry-level positions in medical, dental, hospital or other related medical
environments. TOTAL CLOCK HOURS: 900 ESTIMATED COMPLETION TIME: 10 months for days students/14 months for evening students. NOTE: Externship students may complete a maximum of 5 hours per day. |
